Marine?

Remember the marine I blogged a bunch and who was on the news and wanted for murder? See how we all forgot about him, and he's still on the loose somewhere maybe in Mexico, maybe not? Everyone figured he was going to get caught, but that MacGyver in him has probably given him a few extra months. That said, here's the old story about him. Will it be this year when he's caught? Or is he going to be somewhere far away with a new family, identity, and name? Eventually, someone will find "fugitive island" where the all of the wanted folks will be found. In a sick way, I wanted him to get away just to show people that, if you're smart you can beat the law, like Prison Break, but this guy is wanted for murder, it's real life. Time to catch him.

caro signore redattore;

like you, i enjoy the guilty pleasure of watching the occasional chase after fugitives fleeing the angry spanking hand of justice; sneaking around, secret disguises, covert moving of funds, faked passports and identity papers! the futile promise of "a new life awaits you in the offworld colonies"! it is like the spy movies of old! and, of course, a favorite movie of mine is "the great escape"! no asians in that one, though. sorry.

i am reminded of the unpleasant tale of the evil charles ng, asian-american disgraced marine and serial killer, who fled to calgary, canada after his cohort, leonard lake, took a suicide pill(!) in calaveras county, california after being arrested. ng and lake were responsible for murdering/raping/torturing up to 25 people under unusually heinous circumstances. ng's extradition/ death penalty trial was historically expensive. justifiably so, i would say.

like you, i also believe that the particular offender in in your post deserves a near-eternal stay in the" gray bar hotel". but shall we become the new john walshes of "america's most wanted"? i hope not.

this is less cheerful than my usual haphazard replies. sorry.

gloomily,
sr d
