The nice sunday

West Hollywood book fair today, Michelle is handling a table with David Horvath signing from 1-3. Let's hope it goes well.

Deadlines. It just keeps going. What do we do when a magazine is weeks late? I guess we just work it out till it gets done. But it's the latest in a while. Keep your seat belts on. Issue 50 is pretty much sold out, so our printer better hurry.

Broken ipod 3g. All of a sudden the Apple logo won't go away until the battery dies, but then still nothing happens after I plug it in, the Apple logo comes back up, I've read the stuff online and well, I guess next stop: Genius Bar.

It's sunday, a nice day out, and yesterday I wrote about a lizard. Big deal, but I do wonder, is there something you want me to explain, perhaps about GR, work, etc? Issue 50 was supposed to have a forum or something where we'd answer some questions, but it didn't happen. I can do it here for you.

lizard king

While deadlines are here, Burma has problems, the Iranian president said there's no gay people in Iran, and a whole lot of other crap is running through my mind, I hear rumblings in the bushes not 5 feet from me, the leaves are shaking, and I hear something moving around. From a medium high falls out a lizard with no tail. Was it just attacked and hence it fell out, or was it just clumsy? I seldom ever see lizards in my backyard, so this was a trip. The lizard king let me get up to just one foot or so from it and it still didn't move. It scurried away like an alligator, looking ridiculous.

Gwen Stefani and HP

Why Japan? Is it to keep up that image of Harajuku girls? Yes, Tokyo is a neat place, and the image this commercial brings out shows Tokyo as being neat, and maybe you'll have fun blogging or making a scrap book out of your experiences there. Since most Americans don't travel, this isn't about trying to tell you to go there, it's about putting you in touch with far away places without leaving your computer.

In the end, the site gives you a little, check it out at hp.com/gwen. The neat commercial goes away, and in some ways my guess was correct, you get to do stuff, and buy stuff from your desktop vicariously through Gwen Stefani. It's HP, no doubt. They don't want you to go anywhere, but they do want to give you a taste of a faraway place that looks neat. How about a blog entry for her trip or tour in Japan? It would have been nice to see something a bit less scripted and more integrated with the Lost in Translation like, commercial. Neat start, then it fizzles on the site.

Party time

Foot fetishists rejoice! The foot is ok. Mr Canseco will walk, will jump, will run, and will work! But will he take a cat nap in that spot anymore? I hope not. That was a scare, imagine if the foot went the wrong way, and snap, he'd be a goner. Although a bunch of folks were laughing at this, I thought it was quite tragic. I guess it's funny that he took a nap and got his foot ran over. hm.

Left Foot

Boss man... So one of the employees at gr/eats Mr Canseco, no relation to the steroid abuser, takes a nap during the post lunch pre dinner break time. I guess he's been doing this in a quiet corner area behind the restaurant. Sounds pretty tame. But today, a truck ran over his foot. Both wheels front and back. Laying down and having a foot up to then having it run over sounds like a mess. He said he popped up since his foot got straightened, and the guy in the truck said it was his fault and left, although he's not hard to find. What do I do? Mr Canseco has no insurance... this happened on both of our lots since it's in the back... actually perhaps it's more of the neighbor's lot since the back is their alleyway.

Instead of doing my work, I had to do some other work: find a doctor, take him to the doctor, and then give him a ride home. He seemed more interested in my car than anything else. Nice guy. I think his foot will be fine with ice and some Tylenol, but tomorrow is X ray day. Who knows. Hope it's not fractured.

First Rain

First rain and it came down like cats and dogs. This leaf sat in my backyard and the water just beaded on it. Pretty neat, I thought. But the true show in my backyard are the avocados. They're back sort of. Usually, it's once every two years, but this year, they're back. That one branch is sagging lower and lower every day. The end of summer just happened. I guess it's Fall now.

Blik in a bedroom

Where does the GR branded goods go? Who gets them? We never know until we see them in peculiar places. For example:

This teen earns millions designing myspace pages as seen on CNN. I guess while some cool folks wear t shirts created by streetwear brands, our stuff goes to the nerds who design myspace pages. It also goes on the backs of film directors.

Imprint culture lab

Imprint culture lab 2007. So far, I still haven't told my view of it since I worked it. But nonetheless. The beef place afterwards, enough said. Underground, no name, no nothing, but a blast. That's an experience on it's own.

Money like Mark

When you have the cash like Marc Ecko, what would you do with it? Would you buy the 756 just to give it away and mess around? Read it on cnn here.

Vote here and spend his money for him.

I think I'm voting to just send it in as is. The outer space idea is neat, but may also upset the alien gods. Marking it with a brand? That's got graf all over it. If that happens then, I guess that's alright, but that'll mean Ecko is also placing his name or imprint on the ball as well and that's maybe not right if it's going to Cooperstown. Either way, A Rod will probably break it in ten years or less...

Barry McGee Advanced Mature Work

This has to be the biggest McGee show in LA so far, unless you can count the parking structure at LACMA which isn't there anymore. This one has everything, from an overturned car that actually doesn't have a lot of graf, just stuff in the car, to some cases with bottles, books, and other artifacts including items that we actually had in the Ray Fong show. An unrealized wall pimple, which is just as cool, an orb pimple, a weird box crate thing with garbage on top and video on the inside, animatronic graf kids, patterns with new styles, and much more. See the pics. Andrew Jeffrey Wright did the booklet screen print cover, and he's the one pointing to the old man in the photo. There's an image of Mr McGee's dad and his brother. What more do you need? Check out the images.

work work

Busy day today, work? yeah, what about it? Gotta get to it. I hit the Long Beach flea market, I got another tillandsia. This time, it's a bigger one. The older fella told me that you could use aquarium glue or even hit a nail through the plant to a piece of wood and hang it and eventually the plant will grow around the wood and turn into a ball of Tribble. I'm slowly learning about these plants, and maybe one day, I'll really figure them out. Right now, I'm sort of like the shell collector at the beach, just picking up shiny things without knowing anything about them.

I also got few postcards which I'll need for "work" which hopefully you'll see one day in a film format. Remember I was editing? Yeah, got that done. A 20 minute piece that has a lot of potential, but so much to go. We showed that at Imprint. I'll get to Imprint later and tell you more about that. It's actually still digesting.

Charlie Rose Roger Federer

Sorry been deep in work, but meanwhile, check this out. Roger Federer on Charlie Rose. Roger won again today, 12 majors. 26 years old. Amazing. This video might show you why he's so bad ass. Just click and watch it, it's about an hour long.

It's not just Federer and Charlie Rose, it's the others who are great and still swear that Federer is probably the best including Rafael Nadal, the #2 guy.

they do or they don't

Jimmy! said...

Sooo... I saw the flyer for Geisai SF. That looks like a big night but I think I'll stay in NY for the group show. Also, looks like you guys are building a relationship w/ Staple. Very nice... oh, I guess I'll comment on your sandwich... it's uhmm.. very nice and delicious looking, there.

Jimmy, so kind of you to write about all of our NY shows in crazy weird detail. Anyways, I guess reading your entry above, which is probably just a quick comment, but "looks like you guys are building a relationship..."

No, we don't do this. We just do shit. Relationships, that's for scenesters who want something. I don't go to sneaker parties so I can get free shit, or get a free shirt, or make an extra dollar by shaking a hand. I don't even want to make a sneaker. I don't even want to make a toy right now. I don't even want to go outside. So yeah, "building" a relationship, as if I was making a LEGO® Millenium Falcon? No.

I also don't want a thing from jeffstaple. I do like his designs, his aesthetics, Reed Space is one of the few stores where I actually buy something... But I don't want anything. He's a cool guy and I leave it at that. When we cross paths, it's a good thing, it's not loaded with "what can I get from him, or vice versa." That's the wrong mentality for me.

Add more here:

I think in the end, a lot of the fellas who do this collab stuff are all friends anyway. So I think I took Jimmy's comment to sound like I'm trying to get in this group of people. But no. GR is just light years away in a different direction, probably straight down. That's why I'm a guy plowing away, sometimes alone. If we collab, a lot of times it's with people you've never heard of. Maybe I haven't figured out how to do it yet, or something, but right now, that's not what I'm trying to do, at least with the "streetwear" CEOs, who seemed to have figured out the "X" thing quite well. But if you don't build relationships, how else will you find a girlfriend?, so it's not evil, and I guess, yes, it actually is like building a Millenium Falcon. Also keep note, Jimmy's blog title, AsupremeNewYorkthing. It's already a multilayered satire, at least I think it is. He does call em like he sees em.

IMDB 2

Ok, now what? Look at the bottom, 332%!? WTF did I do? According to some, nothing, others a lot, but is anything that important to deserve a raise like that? I guess if you start low, any little something can bring that up huge. IMDB is a weird thing, they should just make an IMDB page for everyone in the world.

gifts from Eishi Takaoka

So, this is sure to make you look. It's a tenugui, ala, David Horvath's mothman flatwoods item. But this is one from an ero shop of some sort. Why I get this as a present, and what's it really for? Uh, thanks Eishi, but don't you need it?

For relaxing times, make it crunchy dried squid from Kagoshima. Tasty and good, the crackers and chips from Eishi's region are great. Unlike in the US, there are different treats and snacks from the different regions in Japan. Imagine, it's the size of California, and if you were a food person, travelling to taste the local foods is a doable thing. I guess if I drove to San Diego, I could eat tacos, and if I went to SB, maybe some seafood, and SF, a burrito, all with fries, but you and I know that it's not the same.

Air plants Tillandsia

Know anything about these? I'm new to it, finding one for $4 at a flea market. Within a week or so of spray bottle watering, since there's no dirt for it, 3 flowers are starting to come out. It didn't come with the wood, that's some cheap thing I picked up at a hardware store. The weird thing was that at a flea market I saw a piece of drift wood, it was nothing special, no better than these examples of "Grape wood" but it was $20! These are like $5 and 3.

I picked this one up, it's different for sure, and we'll see how well it does.
In case you can't tell these don't need dirt, they really don't need anything, although it's said that they'll grow onto the wood over time. But it's not a leech, it's self sufficient. You can read more about them here: at www.airplant.com
